Marco Polo helps close friends and family keep in touch via quick video chats (Polos). On the prototypes team, I led UX for mobile-first experiences and conducted user research to uncover growth opportunities.

Role: Product Designer
When: 07/2021 - 12/2023
Skills: Figma, User Research, Design Systems, copy-writing, prototypes

Conducting routine user research.

I drafted research plans, created surveys, and conducted moderated + un-moderated tests to uncover needs, to inform feature iterations, and to help discover opportunities to better product branding. Research outcome reports were visible to the broader team via executive summaries and shared via communication channels.

Shipping faster with design system guidelines.

Design components and patterns can quickly evolve and scale as we ship features at a fast pace. Both new and old components and their variations should be accounted for in a systematic way. Using figma, I curated a design system with easy ways for designers to understand the use cases of each component, grab pieces, and design at a faster speed.

Branding and UX for product ventures.

On the prototypes team, I brought life to product visions by designing mobile experiences that centered around user activation, retention, and growth. A few ventures included:

  • Broadcasting features for the core Marco Polo app.

  • AI experiences that help college students make friends on campus

  • Addressing social isolation loneliness by designing an AI matchmaking experiences that help strangers build meaningful connections.

Aligning team vision with user journeys and product flows.

I brought alignment to the design process by using flow-maps and user journeys, led ideation sessions, and presented ideas to fellow design peers, project managers, and executive stakeholders.

Designing experiences for new user recruitment and activation.

It was important for products to have mechanisms to continuously grow its user base. My responsibility was to ensure core product experiences are equipped with features that incentivize users to share with others/invite folks from their different social circles into the app.
